Jobs in Jacksonville could still be stagnating, according to a new report that gives a snapshot of the overall job market.

Challenger, Gray, and & Christmas, the outplacement firm reports that United States-based employers announced plans to trim 51,114 workers from the payrolls in August, a 23- percent decline from July, when the number of job cuts hit a 16-month high of 66,414.

The Duval County School Board has given the go-ahead to trim 250 education jobs in Jacksonville, according to local news reports.

The board said there was no other way to deal with the large budget deficit and to keep jobs in Jacksonville.

“Given the limited budget, that means we have to to cut things that we know that are so important,” School Board Chairman W.C. Gentry told a local reporter.
